Lighting for the Entry...
In the entry, lighting should help define your space. Nowhere is decorator lighting used more successfully than in the foyer. Big and bold, or politely refined, the entrance to your home should be warm and inviting.
Chandeliers... One of the most important considerations when selecting a chandelier for a specific space is its size and placement. Since chandeliers are designed to command attention or be a focal point, it’s important to get it right. Here are some simple guidelines used by the pros:
When determining whether to hang a flush, semi-flush, or multi-tiered chandelier in your foyer, be advised that the bottom of the fixture should be at least 2.2 meters from the floor.
For two-story foyers, if there is a window above the front door, center the chandelier so it can be seen from outside.
If your foyer is extra-large, you may also want to add wall sconces or step lighting.

Spectacular Stairways
No matter if you want formal, glamorous or fun, these designers have your sytle. From very contemporary to traditional, you can blend with the architectural design of your stairway or add personality to a monolithic look. Lighting on stairwells is especially important since recessed down lights won't help. Wall sconces and step lights provide ambient lighting in a space where you need light. |
HINT: When you are hanging a pendant at your entrance, be sure not to overwhelm the room and leave at least 2.2 meters from the fixture to the floor. Also, when you have a window above your door, center the pendant with the transom

Decorative Designer Lighting
and Options for Lower Ceilings If there is a window above your front door, center your light fixture so it can be seen from the outside. Also, consider how your fixture is going to fit your room. Big foyers are challenging, because these big spaces demand a larger chandelier. Smaller spaces can be just as tricky, especially if your ceiling height limits your options. Consider a semi-flush mount or close-to-ceiling fixtures in instances where a chandelier will not work. Below are a number of ideas for semi-flush ceiling lights for entries. Even a smaller entry can be made welcoming and elegant with the addition of a wall sconce. Maison De Ville wall sconce by Feiss.
For entries with lower ceilings, there is still choice. A semi-flush mount (aka close-to-ceiling) lighting fixture brings a bit of sophistication to your foyer.
